Magickal Vs. Mundane

I have a message for my fellow Pagans. Just because we believe in magic doesn't mean we need to depend on it to cure all of our ills. Now I don't want to offend anyone and if that happens I appologize. But I'm so sick of the "send me healing energy I have a headache", "please light a green candle for me so I can put gas in my car". There is nothing wrong with wanting a little magickal oomph but honestly, take some damn tylenol and close your eyes for a half an hour. Poof, headache gone. If you're someone who's against conventional medicine sip some Rosemary tea and close your eyes. Or even better take some preventative measures, meditate to reduce stress and limit your caffeine intake.

These same people who always seem to need some type of magickal assistance are perpetually experiencing bad luck. They have no money, they have family issues, they have health problems. I'm not saying their problems aren't real but if you've got $10 left to your name why are you wasting it on magickal supplies to try and get yourself out of the hole.

First of all magickal tools are not necessary. They're fun and they're helpfull when directing energy but they're not something we NEED to work magick. Secondly, it would appear to me that the universe is having one large laugh at your expense. Nine times out of ten the things we need to do to solve our problems are much simpler than doing a full and lengthy ritual.

To me using magick should be either a last resort or something small we do on the side simply to aid us and make our intentions clear. Not to be our only course of action when dealing with our issues. I've talked to people who literally ended up being homeless because they based whether or not they moved cross country with no financial support on the advice of a woman who read in her cards that it was a good idea. Why would you risk your life and security simply because someone you've never met before who is going to receive none of the reprocusions from your actions told you they divined that it was the right move?

This type of naivity and quite frankly laziness will never cease to baffle me. Like the rest of the world I could use some more money, so I have a candle that I light. It's a beautiful rich green color and  it's infused with herbs meant to attract wealth. However I also make sure all of my bills get paid, If I run into trouble paying a bill I cut back on frivolous expenses and work out a payment plan until things get sorted. I do so immediately and am responsible with the payment plans I set up. I have a credit card for emergencies (and to boost my credit) so I always have some money, I eat at home instead of out, and I do whatever I can to earn a little extra cash. I write freelance, I take surveys, I make jewelry. So far it all seems to work out pretty well. Maybe the candle helps. Maybe it cosmically attracts more buyers to my etsy shop who knows, but it doesn't hurt. What I do know is that if that candle burns out, I'm not buying another one unless I have the cash to spare and if I didn't put in the work the candle wouldn't mean shit.

If you need help, meditate, call on the Gods for assistance, do a ritual to banish bad energy or attract, but please remember your problems will never go away if you're waiting around for cosmic interference.

Early A.M. Venting

Today was supposed to be stress free, well so much for that, for one it's almost 3 in the am and I'm not sleeping so what does that tell you. My chest is killing me and I keep weezing and coughing, so I'm trying to drink hot tea hoping it settles itself enough so I can go back to bed.

We got our kitchen table in today. Yay for that but for whatever ridiculous reason there had to be an argument over a chair cusion with my parents, really a chair cushion? Found out that their is a part in our oven that's crapping out, the safety valve. Doesn't that sound like a part you want to have to worry about in your first week of moving in? So we've got to reach in to the back/bottom of the oven to tap on it just so it ignites. It took us over 3 hours just to get some potatoes and chicken made while we found this out.

Took a peek at my moon phase page today, thinking that I should look at it and see if I need to update anything. It looked fine, so I went to leave it, it asked me if I wanted to leave the page, I said yes. For whatever reason something made me go back and look at it, it had reloaded a page I had typed up in March, MARCH?? Where the hell did that come from? The whole calendar was wiped out and no where to be found. How the fuck did that happen? So tomorrow I've got to try to type it back up. For now it's labeled as "under construction".

I was finally able to get a broom today, so being able to finally sweep the floor is nice. They didn't have the one I wanted and I ended up with a cheap plastic one but we all have to make due with what's available sometimes.

I have deffinately had worse days, and I get it that not all days are going to be perfect but today was the hubby's first day off that we were going to stay home all day, which we did... almost. It was just that today was supposed to be nice and relaxing, instead I went to bed at 10:30 feeling totally wiped out and now I'm awake coughing and weezing and on the computer when I really just want to be in bed.

All Moved In

Well we're officially moved in! I'm not 100% comfortable yet but it always takes me some time to settle into a new place. Not to mention, not all of our furniture is in yet so some spaces still feel a little to empty. It is so nice to have a bigger space, I can finally keep things organized. I was done all of the house work by 8:30 this morning!

Did anyone catch the full moon from Monday night, I was so dead on my feet tired that I just went to bed but it did sound like someone was enjoying it. Nearby I could hear one of our neighbors having some sort of party. Their was music and drumming and whooping, which I thought was weird for a Monday night and I haven't heard it any night since so maybe it was for the Full Moon. It would be pretty cool if we had Pagan neighbors.

It's taken us so many trips to move things in it's ridiculous and we still have more to transport, it's little stuff, but still. Next time we decide to move we are renting a damned moving truck and getting everything done in one shot. I've missed my Internet world, what's going on out there, any interesting stories to tell?

The Move Is Upon Us

I can't believe it, in less than a week we'll be settling into our new apartment! There is so much to do between now and then that I'm feeling a little frantic. It doesn't help that it's an hour away from here so when we start transporting all of our stuff every trip is going to feel like forever.

Once we're finally in getting settled is going to take forever but that's going to be the fun part. First thing that needs to get settled is painting. We're allowed to paint the apartment and the previous tenant had.... interesting taste, to say the least. So we've got to pick out colors and get at least the two bedrooms and bathroom painted. Right now the master bedroom is dark blue and electric pink, not really conducive to relaxation. We also need to call the gas company and have the stove hooked up and call the cable company to have Internet set up. Some people need coffee, I need the Internet.

Despite all of the stress and responsibility it will be nice to finally spread out. Anywho the point of all this is that sadly I won't be able to connect with my readers much over the next few weeks :-( When I return I'll have lots to tell and pictures to share. Wish me luck that all goes smoothly.

New Beginnings

We put a down payment on our apartment!!! I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. We won't be able to move in until at least the first but I'm okay with that. It's ours and it's waiting for us. I have a lot to do over the next two weeks. I'll be packing and paring down all of our stuff, trying to get rid of anything we don't really need or use anymore. No point packing up and saving useless junk.

I've always had a problem throwing things away. Broken nic-nacs and old toys become ageless companions. Clothes that don't fit are a promise that I'm going to fit into them again. Body spray bottles with broken tops can always be fixed and if I save the rest of that lotion I won't need to buy any for a while, let's pretend it's not 6 years old and incredibly cheap.

One of the reasons I love moving is the cathartic clearing out of old belongings. I always feel like I'm planning for a new life when I move, and when I'm about to have a new life I have the freedom to get rid of stuff I never could before. I love new beginnings the same way I love the turn of the wheel. It's magickal, it's new and familiar, like remembering a past life, you've been here before but it was in a different time and you were a different person.

How do you feel about new beginnings, do you welcome them or are you afraid of them?

Friday Night

We're finally looking at apartments and if everything works out we may have found just the right one. We're even allowed to paint if we want to, which is a plus as we're still in the stages of trying to break our son of his coloring on the walls habit.

My witchy brain is all a-flutter at the prospect of a new living space. I will finally for the first time in I don't know how long be able to set up my sacred space! My kitchen will be all my own, something that I have been missing deeply. Not to mention the mountains of stuff we've been trying to cram into our bedroom for the past 3 years will finally be able to spread out through out an entire apartment! I'll finally have space to work on my jewelry.

Over the past few months I've been trying to get my Etsy shop up and running. I started it about a year ago and for whatever reason I just fell flat. When it comes to selling product I'm just to damned professional lol. I've been scratching my head trying to find the right words to inject some of my personality into my shop. Something that's less needy and less formal and more me.

I found a new book, It was the Food vs Me and I won by Nancy Goodman. It deals with food issues and it's really good. I found it for free on my kindle and it deals with more than just eat this not that and exercise more. It encourages you to deal with the emotional issues behind the food. Something that a lot of people with weight issues often overlook.

Any who, that's what's going on with me and my life. Oh and Yay Obama for supporting gay marriage!!! It's about damned time lol.

Happy Friday all

One of Those Days

Ever had one of those days where nothing really happens but just all of a sudden life.. just the entirety of life hits you like a ton of bricks. You look around and it dawns on you how badly you need to clean.. but you don't want to clean you feel too depressed to clean, and you know it's not going to get done and it just depresses you more. You're not happy with the way you look and the way you feel but you just don't know where to start. Every option feels like it will take forever and it's almost not worth it and you just feel helpless. You feel so spiritually disconnected that you're just floating, not even happy and there's never any time to center and get to the place you need to be. You know you need a change but you're afraid of that change and you're like a hamster on a wheel, running and running and running and not getting anywhere.

I'm having one of those days. We NEED to move, that's definitely part of it. I need my space, I feel trapped, and as much as I love my parents.. I really have to get away from them. I spent most of my day looking for apartments on Craigslist. Even though the need to move is a big part of it, it's not all of it. It's me, I need.. something, something to motivate me. I just feel so creatively fucked (if that even makes sense). Everything feels bleak and I just want to bite down on a pillow and scream. I feel like I need to take a step back from everything and prioritize. So that's what I'm doing. I'm putting some of my other projects on hold and I'm just taking a step back until I feel right in my own head again. Right now I feel like that's the only option I have. It seems as if life is just slowly piling up around me and pretty soon I'll be buried by it and I don't know how to get out.

I need to.. meditate, read, spend time outside. I need to have a moment where I do absolutely NOTHING, and have that be okay. I feel like I'm always doing something and nothing gets done, so maybe if I do nothing, something will get done. I don't even know if that makes sense but it feels right. Sometimes while my day is whisking by, I feel like I've lost myself. I need time to be a little crazy, do something I'm not supposed to, and just plain be myself. It's like I have to be this other person, this person I don't even recognize to get through the day and the real me is shrinking and shriveling up inside this unfamiliar shell. It scares me how true those words feel. Something is not right, something is not well, and something is not happy. I need to find out why.

Fitness Update

I checked my weight this morning and I seem to be on track for my goals so YAY ME! I've been a bit lax in my workout routine so I could definitely be doing better in that area but I've also found myself eating a lot less and getting full sooner so I guess it balances out. I've started taking a Super B Complex supplement for metabolism energy to go along with the vegetarian water pill I take. I have a tendency to retain water and they help tremendously.

I'd like to offer everyone who is trying to get healthier and lose weight a tip. Don't try talking yourself into buying or eating food simply because it's "healthy". I'm talking about those super organic insanely healthy cereals that taste like cardboard and sand, and those horrible "chips" that to me taste kind of sour. For me, I've always bought and ate that crap because I'm telling myself that I'm giving myself the same food I always eat just healthier and that will help me to lose weight. Wrong. If you like it, great, munch away. If you don't though please don't waste your money. You're going to eat that because you're "supposed" to, you won't feel satisfied and you'll end up binging on the junk that you're craving. Eat the stuff you like and simply make sure you're limiting it to a proper serving size. It'll stop you from associating food with guilt (you shouldn't have an emotional relationship with food) and you'll actually end up eating less.

Another thing that I know but I always have a hard time doing anything about, taking care of me. As a mom it's easy to forget about doing stuff like brushing my teeth, or putting on deoderant (gross I know, but I'm being honest). No one should constantly put themselves on the back burner like that. You'll end up with low self esteem because you don't look like you want and the depression from that will have you turning to all of your comfort vices i.e. sitting on your ass, and eating junk. When you feel good about yourself you want to move around, be seen, and get things done. So I'm trying really hard to force myself to do those basic hygiene things every day even if I need to write them into a to-do list and check them off.

I hoped this helped or encouraged someone, and if anyone has any health or beauty tips please share. The best way to honor the divine is to honor ourselves. The divine is within all of us, no exceptions.

WARNING, This Will Be A Rant!

I am so sick of hearing about religion and faith in the damned news. If you are a person of faith whatever that faith may be, by all means celebrate it, but stop using it as a damned badge to get recognized. Every fucking day I have to hear about athletes that pray, and this person's Pastor or Minister, and who goes to what church. Who's Christian, and who's not Christian enough. Prayer in school.. every pointless thing that doesn't belong in the news.

First of all, what happened to News being about.. I don't know News. Stuff like murders, shootings, people going to court for fraud, what buildings have burned down, high profile places that have been robbed, major accidents. Every time it gets turned on I hear about religion and what celebrities are doing. I know there are going to be some people who say well just turn it off. Believe me I would love too. However, I do live with my parents, the T.V. is theirs, and they decide what we watch.

I don't want to confuse anyone into thinking I'm this severely depraved person who wants nothing more than to see tragedy.. I don't. I think it's fabulous if they have nothing awful to report. I'm thrilled to pieces but that news is so slow they have to put on these windbags.. but then these same windbags get on T.V. and try to tell us that the world is going to shit and we all need to turn to Jaay-zus in order to save ourselves. It is? We do? If there is so little going on that they put you on television I highly doubt it. If there is fire in the streets and things are so awful, worse than they ever have been, let me see it.

They want us to believe that everything is so bad, that we have to return to traditions family ("fundamental Christian") values, or things are just going to get worse. They are convinced that the world is just filled with degenerates. Last I knew, studies show that crime rates are low as opposed to the past. Bullies are no longer cool and the small and voiceless are taking a stand. Why is that bad. They think people who have no interest in harming others and simply wish to seek a happy and fulfilling life where they don't have to pretend to be someone they aren't are the enemy. Why?

They want us to go back words in time where politics can dictate what people believe in, where women have no rights, where the LGBT hide and cower in fear of discovery. Why? Why are these buffoons aloud to spread their filth, hate, and misinformation on the NEWS? Does that make any sense to anyone. People boycotted the Dixie Chicks because they didn't like Bush, but people get on the News every day and bash Obama, and that's okay??

Sorry if this rambled or seemed a little disjointed but this shit just makes no sense to me.

What's Going On

Well for the last couple days I've been having a little bit of a writers block problem and have been struggling with what to post about. Instead of spending forever hoping something meaningful springs to mind I'm just going to give you all a little update about what's going on in my life.

For anyone who doesn't know, my son has a rare blood disorder which prohibits his body from creating red blood cells. He's currently taking steroids to help his bone marrow in producing those precious red cells. Me and my husband joke all the time that he's going to brag to his friends when he's older that he's a vampire. He's pale and for the first year of his life he needed blood transfusions every 1 to 2 months to keep him going. Well on the 30th he had an appointment with his hematologist and he was stable enough for them to drop his dose again. This is incredibly exciting news for us. The ultimate goal is to reduce it to either a manageable amount he'll take forever or best case scenario weaning him off of them all together. Let's hope this is a step in the right direction.

He's been really testing his limits lately. He really knows how to push my buttons and when. I do my best to keep my cool but sometimes I have to just walk away. Is this just a three year old thing? I sure hope so.

We got our tax refund in today (yippee!!) which means we get to pay off some important bills and spoil ourselves a little. So far we got a PS3 for the family and I got a new bed set plus a few small things.

I finally got a round to talking to my husband about my fitness goals. I really want to take things seriously this time. I've been reading this free weight loss book on my Kindle called Drop a Dress Size. It's a great book, it's realistic and it focuses on real health and making healthy choices. It provides a lot of great information and techniques to get you off on the right foot. Especially what it has to say about setting goals. I've been working out every day for at least 30 minutes and have fallen in love with Tiffany Rothe workouts. She's full of good energy and offers a wide variety of exercises. You can find most of them on YouTube and if you follow the weekly workout routine she has posted on her Facebook page you will sweat!

I haven't forgotten about my Witchy Reading Challenge. I'm still reading Honor Bound and so far it's a great book. I've just been so unfocused lately I've been having a hard time reading diligently but I'm over half way through and will be sure to post my review soon so I can start my next book.

In current affairs I'm glad Prop 8 was deemed unconstitutional and it scares the crap out of me that Santorum is doing so well in the poles.

I hope the rest of your week is easy and relaxed and don't forget to check back in for Tarot Friday.

High Energy Sunday

For anyone living in the Northeast I have one question. What the F*** is up with winter? It's weird, it's.. sort of cold but no snow. I'm someone who gets MAJOR spring fever, and that's the way I feel lately. A little too wired, a little too jittery dying to go bask in the warm sun, but it's cold. So I'm stuck inside and it drives me crazy. I'll feel a little better come Imbolc. That's usually when I take a deep breath and remember that Spring is just around the corner. Today seems to be an especially hyper day but it is Sunday after all and is powered by the energy of the Sun, not to mention there's a full moon out tonight. So all of those things combined together are leaving me feeling manic.

Last month I did a post on nourishing your inner masculine where I talked about remembering the duality within each of us and the fact the Goddess and the God are inside all of us, no matter what our gender. I've taken great strides toward attuning myself to that energy and it's definitely helped. No more nightmares about my husband leaving me, no more feeling soft and helpless. I've found the my inner hunter.

Despite all of this though I still feel more connected to the Goddess. I tend to think of Spring and Autumn as the Goddess seasons while Summer and Winter are the God seasons. During the days of the Goddess are definitely when I feel more alive, and lately that's the way I feel. With the seasons being so.. off it leaves me feeling far too contained. Like my spirit is just too large for my body (my cat seems to sympathise, she's been going spastic). It's a good feeling but at night I feel drained, and during the day I have a hard time staying focused and getting things done.

Music seems to help funnel the extra energy so I spend a lot of time listening to music and dancing around.

My current selection

Does anyone else ever feel like this? If you do, how do you handle it? Do you have any special tricks for keeping yourself in check or do you just let it flow?

Still Left Out

In all of my bitching about mine and my family's crappy day yesterday I forgot to mention an interesting little tid-bit that I noticed at the hospital.

Every year around the holidays Mary Lane Hospital near where I live sets up a lovely little table dedicated to cultural/ spiritual diversity. It is quite nice to see that there are some who really care about equality and inclusiveness. On this table there is a plaque and display set up to recognize Hanuka with a traditional Menorah, there is a manger and plaque set up to recognize Christmas and the birth of Jesus and there is a plaque to recognize Kwanzaa that talks about the 7 principals and has some harvest symbols displayed.

Something you may have noticed is that there is no mention of the Solstice. The pagan community is growing and not only do pagans celebrate the solstice but there are many Atheists who also recognize the Solstice as the reason for the season. One would think they wouldn't want to leave such a large group of people out.

I don't like being the type of person who lets something bother them without doing anything about it, so I've decided to try and contact them and perhaps make a display myself to share and educate the community at large about our faith.

If anyone else lives in central MA and knows which display I'm talking about, CONTACT ME! I would love to make this a group effort. If anyone knows how I can contact the makers of this holiday display and/or would like to participate let me know.

This concept of getting involved is really quite scary to me. If you've read my About Me tab you probably already know I live my spiritual life mostly in the broom closet. So I've been racking my brain about a way to possibly do this anonymously. If I make any progress in this venture I'll be sure to let you know!

Crappy Day!

We got up this morning planning on going to the bank and McD's for a little breakfast (I know how unhealthy they are but damnit I'm addicted to the frappes). We ended up at the hospital for 2 hours.

About five days ago I noticed a small discolored bump on Adrian's but, I figured he must have fallen and gotten a bruise or something, nothing major. Then two days ago I noticed that it had gotten bigger and he was starting to say that it hurt. So just to get an idea of what it might be I jumped on WebMD just to do a little research with their symptom checker. Eventually what I came up with was that it was an abscess and that it's more common in people that are on regular steroid treatment (which my son is) or in people that have blood disorders (which my son has). It didn't seem too scary and they said as long as it was small it just needed a hot compress and a little time.

Well as of this morning he wouldn't even sit and after a little examination it had doubled in size. So I called the pediatrician and they had an open appointment at 11:40. Perfect! It was still early so we ran our errands grabbed some food and headed to the doctors office. We even got their ten minutes early. Unfortunately it would seem that in hospital language 11:40 really means 12:00. Fine whatever, it's no big deal, I understand. hospitals are busy places and we aren't the only family in the universe whose child needs to be seen. So I read on my Kindle (that thing is really a sanity saver).

Now normally I'm a friendly person, I smile at strangers and have no problem striking up conversations with anyone at any time. However I seem to have a large sign on my forehead that screams "BE MY FRIEND" It's probably because I'm just too polite to ignore people, but still everyone seems to be extra chatty the second I'm around, and have this innate urge to tell me EVERYTHING about themselves and their loved ones. A particularly chatty older lady told me about every electronic in her and her daughters home as soon as she noticed my little device (as if seeing it in my hand meant she had to assure me they weren't technologically behind). This was of course after asking me if it really held books. I felt like saying "no, the commercials lied to you, it's really nothing more than a fancy paperweight and I'm looking at it to continue the illusion." In reality I just nodded, I like to be polite.

Of course I had to go through the same conversation I go through with anyone who's ever even come close to a child in their lifetime. "How old is he?" "Three" "He's tiny/small/petite/a peanut." "Yup" (because as his mother I couldn't have possibly known this) "Oh, well my child/grandchild/niece/nephew/neighbor/etc.. is 2 and they're twice his size" and then I get this look like what's your answer to that of course there are the people that say "Oh well my child/grandchild/niece/nephew/neighbor/etc.. was small too." As if this somehow makes me less guilty. Did I mention I did this twice today. Both sides of the conversation, and for some reason it's always the older people that look at me as if I'm to blame for him being tiny, and the younger people that try to find an out for me by coming up with someone that they know who was small too. I know they're just trying to make conversation but it gets old.

Finally we see the doctor only to be told yes it's an abscess and he's putting him on antibiotics and it needs to be drained today. Wonderful. So over to the ER where apparently they're doing construction and some elderly lady in a pink smock keeps ushering us back and forth as if we can't read signs or notice large white pieces of fabric covering half of the office. Finally in triage they take his info, get him registered and after an uncomfortable but short visit in the waiting room (uncomfortable because we had to watch Jerry Springer with our three year old) we were in the procedure room. We waited there for about half an hour to forty-five minutes until the doctor finally came in with the nurse (who kept calling my son Aiden, and I've noticed that apparently all nurses think Adrian is a weird name because they all call him that).

My poor baby had to lay face down with a nurse and my husband holding him down (he's a fighter) while he screamed. Before they started he even tried to talk them out of it he kept saying "Doctor, I need to talk to you a minute" He's a hustler, he's three and he thinks he can talk anyone out of anything if he just says "maybe tomorrow". So he wailed as they had to slice open the abscess with a scalpel, and then spread the hole open to insert a wick. According to the doctor the abscess was big, even for an adult. I have to say that was the most pus I have EVER seen in my life. For the next two days he needs to take four baths a day and for the next ten days he needs to be on 16 ML of antibiotics. Not to mention Adrian told me with big tears streaming down his face that he was mad at me for not saving him from the doctor which just about broke my heart.

I keep reminding myself that worse things have happened to better people but man did today SUCK!

Five Year Anniversary

Today is my five year anniversary to my wonderful, amazing, sexy husband. Thankfully my parents are watching our son so we can get a night out alone. Nothing to fancy, just dinner at Applebee's and maybe a little shopping, but what we do doesn't really matter. The ritual of making sure we find time alone for a quiet, meal, adult conversation, and reminiscing about that special day five years ago where we pledged our selves to each other for all of eternity is what makes it special (and of course sex).

As I've said before I have no interest in bashing other religions, or faith systems and I know that these kinds of quandaries are not prevalent to everyone of a specific religious denomination. However, I've heard and read about a lot of people being concerned with whether or not they should celebrate an anniversary, a birthday, a holiday or even wear wedding bands and hand out gifts because they believe the practice to be "too pagan" or secular and not something ordained by their God. I don't know that I could live that way. Afraid to commemorate a special occasion with a celebratory ritual.

Why would God care whether or not they give someone a birthday present? Or whether or not wearing a wedding band is too pagan. Why can't we just be happy. As long as it's not harming someone else why does it even matter what we do? I'm not saying they're wrong. Obviously they need to do whatever feels right to them, I just couldn't live that way. It seems very...joyless. I'm sure they feel the same way about someone who's pagan and to me that's just why they are who they are and I am who I am and that's just the way it's meant to be.

All I know is I'm proud to wear my wedding band, and engagement band. I'm proud of the fact that we've been married for five years, and I'm glad that every year on the 14th of October my husband and I will find ourselves in some restaurant, talking about how nice we looked that day, and how much we still love each other.
